Bantam, Youth, Middle School Spring Lacrosse Teams [Feb - May]
The 3rd-8th Grade Spring Lacrosse Program provides a structured league for beginner through elite players. This is a competitive program wherein Medina will play against other community teams. The intent of this program is to engage players for the long term whether in preparation for high school lacrosse and beyond or seeking meaningful and fun team activity. This program emphasizes effort, resilience, and honorable play. Off-field skills - respect for others, overcoming mistakes - through positive coaching techniques. Players should look forward to next practice, game, season and return year after year. Players gain experience and find success through meaningful minutes playing time policy. All skill levels are provided with growth opportunities in various positions and game scenarios.
Boys and girls teams are formed separately. Teams are grouped by school grade - Bantam (3rd/4th), Youth (5th/6th) , Middle School (7th/8th). Teams may be segmented into squads to match skill levels between players and with other programs. Expectations, emphasis, opportunities, and playing time policies are not affected by squad.
Coaches are member volunteers. All coaches receive certified training and mentoring. Appropriate squad registration for all tournament events is expected (no sandbagging). Festivals include entire team using above mentioned policies. Coaches may truncate roster and suspend Meaningful Minutes policy for bracketed tournaments.
Parents can expect a “community club” experience. “Club” means a higher level of involvement than recreational programs. However there is more flexibility than for-profit programs. There will be some local travel to away games. There will be festivals and tournaments (all day events). “Community” means there are support and volunteer requirements. The programs coaches, team parents, help with special events comes from members.
